HENDRIK CONSCIENCEPLEIN
Square lined with cafes and the municipal library with the facade decorated with the statue of the Flemish writer Hendrik Conscience
It's a charming square lined with cafés on one side and the municipal library on the other - the façade of which is decorated with the statue of the Flemish writer, Hendrik Conscience, and decorated with benches where it's nice to sit for a few moments. Hendrik Conscience is the author of the novel The Lion of Flanders and was the first person in the 19th century to write in Flemish again. It is said that he taught his people to read again. The link with the library is therefore not fortuitous. Most of the buildings are the result of the architectural plans of the Jesuits in the 17th century.
