COGELS-OSYLEI AND SURROUNDINGS
Quiet avenue and main artery of the Zurenborg district, featuring architectural styles including Art Nouveau and eclectic
At the height of economic growth before 1914, the Zurenborg district, with Avenue Cogels-Osylei as its main thoroughfare, was the district of architectural follies. The presence of front gardens was a sign of bourgeoisie. This quiet avenue is an exhibition of all the styles of the immediate pre-war period, Art Nouveau and eclectic. Among the follies, a mansion on the south side of the avenue is a copy of the Maison Saint-Cyr in Brussels.
