CABINET DE TRAVAIL DE BUFFON
Buffon rarely gave access to this intimate place where he spent many hours composing the 36 volumes of his general and special Natural History. The building looks like a small house, located just on the left of the park entrance, as suspended on the hill. Rousseau and other Enlightenment scientists have, however, passed the doors of this modest place, listed as Historic Monument. The walls covered with the aquarellated prints of François-Nicolas Martinet, which illustrate the natural history of birds, the marble fireplace or the portrait of Newton, restore the special atmosphere of this symbolic place of an extraordinary editorial adventure. The windows still open up to a nature that Buffon has constantly understood through his observations and the experiments he conducted within his park.
