BRASSERIE DE TUBIZE
Betchard (blonde, brown), Blanche de Tubize, Abbaye de Boneffe, La Forgeronne
Jean Rodriguez is a native spanish, some time ago he planned to install his tanks in Spain. However he choose Tubize, where he dwells. The man was convinced by the proposal of the municipality to settle on the site of the former Fabelta factory. Today, the warm colours and red brick of the buildings of the tavern and brasserie are perfect to restore the appearance of this place. Because he wanted to highlight his affection for Tubize, Jean decided to chose Betchard, the mascot of the town, to name his beers. This character has a mocking spirit, in charge of the advertisement of the news in the urban area, it was quite successful because of the drinks offered during his tours.
For the owner of one of the most significant restaurants of Brussels, to create and manage a brasserie is easier said than done. Jean Rodriguez, in charge of Spinnekopke, has implemented his new company in Tubize in 2005. Since then, it underwent many difficulties, starting with the flooding, oftenly struck this city of Brabant wallon during these recent years. Especially at the end of 2010, 1,60 meter of floodwater in the buildings housing brewery equipment. Jean spent a whole year to restore this place in good status again at that time. The first brassins started only in spring 2012. The throats of new beers lovers have been satisfied since meanwhile, Betchard blonde and brown were brewed in other brasseries. This tandem is completed with a Blanche de Tubize, an Abbaye de Boneffe and a Forgeronne, whose name refers to the steel history of the region.
If Jean does not expect to exceed 1,000 hectolitres in annual production, his projects are not over yet. There are some space for innovation, a museum will be open on the floors placed above the tavern and will present essentially equipment of the former breweries Devaux (Philippeville) and Hannicq (Tubize). As for the restaurant, as well the terrace as the interior, beautifully decorated with wood panelling and mirrors covered with an old tavern of Brussels, offer a pleasant setting for a drink or enjoy a cuisine… brasserie.
