The Memorial of the Battle of Waterloo of 1815, with a museum, a panorama of a huge canvas, and a farm of Hougoumont

The 1815 Battle of Waterloo Memorial can be discovered on a guided tour in French.

With the help of a tour application, the Memorial museum brings this legendary battle to life through the famous gallery of uniforms, historical objects, animated maps, and an original and interactive 3D film. A 33 m² model of the battlefield shows the forces that were present on the morning of 18 June 1815. The Panorama is a huge circular canvas measuring 110 metres by 12 metres to capture the life-size battle, with sound and immersive effects. In the Hougoumont farm, the story of the "battle within the battle" is told thanks to a multimedia installation combining innovation and memory. Activities take place every day in high season: bivouac, soldier's school, cannon shooting, horse-drawn carriage rides, educational farm..

Lion's Mound. The Lion is perched on a cone of land 169 meters in diameter that the Dutch raised, from 1823 to 1826, at the presumed place where the Prince of Orange, future king of the Netherlands, was wounded, in the territory of Braine-l'Alleud. The Lion weighs 28 tons and was transported from Seraing, in the province of Liège, where it was made, first by steamboat and then on a cart pulled by twenty horses. One can climb the 226 steps and from up there, the view of the battlefield is superb.

impressionnant
