The origins of this building go back more than ten centuries: originally built for the Sire of Antoing, it was transformed to receive successively the powerful family of Melun then the Line, always present and owners of the castle. This feudal castle which dominates the valley of the Escaut is noticeable from miles around and yet shows its true nature only once inside the perimeter. The enclosure dates from the 12th century, under Gautier d'Antoing.
