Every 1st Sunday of the month, discover the permanent collections and the exhibition of the moment.
The Espace gallo-romain is home to two large Roman boats discovered in 1975 during excavations at the Pommeroeul site.
The exceptionally well-preserved barge and pirogue are among the Treasures of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
The vicus (town) of Pommeroeul, the origin of most of the museum's collections, was once a secondary settlement at the crossroads of a road (Bavay-Blicquy) and a river (La Haine). This location probably gave it a major commercial and craft role for the regions to the north of the ancient city of Bavay.
The burial of the vicus in damp ground and its accidental discovery during excavation work on the new Mons-Condé canal, now allow us to learn more about navigation, technical know-how and the various aspects of ancient life.
The Espace gallo-romain lets the objects speak for themselves, without oversimplifying them, clearly distinguishing authentic pieces from reconstructions. Objects are explained and animated using interactive techniques, images, drawings, models and text.

Free admission on the 1st Sunday of the month: guided tour or animation from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Admission €4 / €6
