SALAMANDER TOWER
Small museum that hosts Gallo-Roman pottery, souvenirs of the princes of Caraman-Chimay, Napoleon, Charles V, Victor Hugo
Marking the landscape of the city of Beaumontoise, the Salamander Tower is an old keep built in the 11th century by Richilde, Countess of Hainaut. It dominates the valley of the Hantes river and allowed to defend the southern part of the County. A small museum, on four floors, houses Gallo-Roman pottery, souvenirs of the Princes of Caraman-Chimay, Napoleon, Charles V, Victor Hugo and miniatures by Charles de Croÿ (16th century). From the top of the 136 steps you can admire the splendid panorama. Inside, a small museum on the local flora.
