Primitive building built in Romanesque style in the 12th century, a monastery dedicated to Saint Ursmer in Brinche
The original building (Moustier Sainte-Marie) was built in Romanesque style in the 12th century. In 1408, the Lobbes chapter came to Binche with relics, holy bodies and treasures. The monastery became a collegiate church, dedicated to Saint Ursmer. The present Gothic church was extensively restored in the 16th and 17th centuries, following the destruction of the neighboring castle of Marie de Hongrie by Henry II's troops. Inside, the rood screen is a perfect example of Renaissance art.
