LOUVIGNIES CASTLE
Château de Louvignies is a magnificent castle located 6 kilometers from Soignies, in the Belgian province of Hainaut. Designated the seat of a seigneury in 1389, it was acquired in 1716 by the Governor of Charleroi, Rodrigo de Peralta, who had a moated castle built. The château was redesigned in the 1870s by the architect Désiré Limbourg, in keeping with the eclecticism and folie des grandeur of the period. Today, it offers visitors an exceptional 19th-century setting, with rooms decorated in the style of the period, such as the dining room with its armorial family service and crystal tumblers, the kitchen with its array of copper pots and pans, and the marquises' bedroom with its lace petticoats and ball gowns. The château is surrounded by a 14-hectare English park, designed by Louis Fuchs in 1870, where you can stroll and admire 25 remarkable trees, including a Virginia Tulip dating from 1880. Château de Louvignies is a real historical gem to discover during your visit to Soignies.
