THE CATHEDRAL OF THE LILY
Cathedral of neo-Romanesque and Byzantine style, which stands on the ruins of old churches in Comines.
In neo-Romanesque and Byzantine style, this "cathedral" stands on the Place de Warneton, on the ruins of ancient churches (including one from the 7th century). Many times destroyed (especially during the Great War), rebuilt in 1928 around a single nave, it suffered during the Second World War. The Germans took away the bells that were found at the liberation in Hamburg. The crypt has nevertheless been saved; there are two polychrome tombs from the 14th century. As are the baroque stalls dating from the 17th century, and the Art Nouveau furniture, unusual in a church.
