PIONEER BUNKER 14/18
German blockhouse with a museum of 3 small rooms with documents relating the life of the German pioneer soldiers.
Comines, like other towns in the region, has seen its history scarred by the two World Wars. This German blockhouse erected in the centre of Comines in 1917 now houses a museum of three small rooms, containing documents retracing the lives of the German pioneer soldiers of 1914-1918. These troops (now called the "corps of engineers") were intended to reinforce the German defensive lines, and to take the enemy bastions with new lethal inventions (trench mortars, poison gas, flame-throwers).
