THE CASTLE OF THE COUNTS
Castle with a manor house, a Tournai style facade, a farmyard, the remains of outbuildings and a moat.
From the 13th to the 18th century, four lordly families succeeded one another at the head of the castle, and developed it. Its history is marked by two major events: the Emperor Charles V stayed here during a visit to Mouscron; and the sacking of the region and the castle by the Hurlus, followers of Luther and Protestantism, who occupied it for three months during the Wars of Religion. All that remains today is the manor house, with its Tournais-style facade, a farmyard, the remains of outbuildings and a moat dating from the 15th to 17th centuries.
