GASTRIC SPINNING
A former spinning mill, listed as a Historic Monument, with a facade inspired by English industrial architecture.
Trained at Zimmermann Frères, Édouard Gast chose to set up his spinning mill in Issenheim in 1851. Set up on the first floor, its innovative design and unusual architecture were a surprise! Its facade, inspired by English industrial architecture, makes it look like a fortified castle! The spinning mill was one of the first to equip its factory with a steam engine, enabling it to be located next to major traffic arteries. Closed in 2004, the site is currently undergoing major restructuring, and now houses two restaurants and an artist's studio.
