MARCHE SAINT-ROCH
Between May and October, the folk marches of Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse make the whole region resound to the sound of fife and drums. This tradition dates back to the Middle Ages. Colourful parades of companies in military-inspired costumes. In Thuin, the festivities begin with a torchlight retreat and campfire on Saturday night. Several thousand walkers crisscrossed the city the next day. In spite of the folkloric (and even pagan) character of the festivities, the religious context is never far away and the devotion to Saint Roch remains very present.
