ST. JAMES CHURCH
Church built in Scaldian Gothic style, located on one of the routes to Santiago de Compostela in Tournai.
Built in the 13th century in the Scaldian Gothic style, the Church of St. James, a Walloon Heritage Site, is located on one of the pilgrim routes to Santiago de Compostela, and is a popular destination for pilgrims. The Apostle is given pride of place, notably in a statue where, like a pilgrim, he carries a staff and a shell. The polygonal chevet is adorned with superb, colorful stained-glass windows. Twenty-four angel musicians painted in 1404 adorn the vault of the right side chapel. The organ is impressive. Perfectly restored, it's one of Tournai's finest.
