This monument pays tribute to Gabrielle Petit, a nurse who became a spy during the First World War. Born in Tournai on 20 February 1893, she spent her last days in Saint-Gilles prison before being shot in Schaerbeek on 1 April 1916. Posthumously decorated with the Order of Leopold (the most important military and civil order in Belgium), this Tournai-born citizen remains one of the figures of the Belgian resistance during the First World War.
