This monument pays tribute to Gabrielle Petit, a nurse turned spy during the First World War. Born in Tournai on February 20, 1893, she spent her last days in Saint-Gilles prison before being shot in Schaerbeek on April1, 1916. Posthumously awarded the Order of Leopold (Belgium's most important military and civil order), this Tournai-born citizen remains one of the leading figures of the Belgian resistance during the First World War.
