FORT D'AUBIN-NEUFCHÂTEAU
Fort built from 1935 to 1940, houses a museum with a Junker 88 airplane engine and Red Cross equipment from both world wars
Built between 1935 and 1940, the Fort d'Aubin-Neufchâteau was intended to close the Aachen-Visé-Liège access, i.e. the north-eastern front of the fortified position. Intended as an artillery support for a defensive line of bunkers, the fort fought in May 1940 with just five men, firing some 15,000 projectiles in eleven days. During the German occupation, the fort was used as a testing ground for one of Hitler's secret weapons. The tour continues with a museum containing a Junker 88 aircraft engine and Red Cross equipment from both wars.
