ST. BARTHOLOMEW'S COLLEGE
Liège's oldest religious building, completed in the century, in the Rheno-Mosan style, with a brightly coloured exterior
It is the last of seven collegiate churches built between the 8th and 11th centuries. Consecrated in 1015, it was transformed between the 11th and 12th centuries, reflecting the grandeur of German Romanesque architecture. The church's polychrome facades give it a special cachet. It houses the Saint-Barthélemy baptismal font, one of Belgium's seven wonders. This work of early Romanesque art is both technically prodigious and aesthetically striking.
