It is a popular festival rooted in tradition since 1502 whose emblematic figures are the Blancs-Moussis. Characters dressed in a white cape and hood with a masked face with a long trumpet nose, they bombard the crowd with confetti and flog the audience with pig bladders. This mischievous and ghostly silhouette appeared when the prince abbot forbade to wear the monastic robe at carnival. The inhabitants of Stavelot then decided to parody the costume by putting on a white cape and a mask with a long red nose.
