The Visé Museum of Archaeology and History summarizes the Battle of the Pont de Visé, the first battle of the Great War in Europe, on August 4, 1914. In the days that followed, the Germans ransacked the town, setting fire to the church of Saint-Martin, 580 houses including the town hall, and the historic center. Visé became the first martyred town of 1914. In addition, over 600 Visé residents were deported to Germany. The museum in the former Sépulcrines convent (1616) features a permanent exhibition, archives and a historical documentation center.
