ASTER PENISH
It is one of the last visible wooden barges in France. Built in 1951, the Aster barge originally carried coal before being used to take schoolchildren for a walk on the Nivernais Canal. For a while, this oak barge was pulled by horses! Today, the wooden belle is being restored on the initiative of the Aqua association, whose objective is the conservation of the river heritage. Although the boat was brought to the Saint-Jean-de-Losne wharves in 2014, its restoration took more than three years in collaboration with the Rempart association, which works to protect the heritage. If you would like to know more about this renovation, please contact the Museum of Boating.
