ST. DONATUS CHURCH
Church fortified under Louis XIV on the plans of Vauban, erected by the Capuchin Fathers on the ruins of the castle of the counts
The church was built in 1626 by the Capuchin Fathers on the ruins of the castle belonging to the Counts and Marquises of Arlon. It was fortified under Louis XIV to plans by Vauban. In the tower, a campanile houses a carillon that plays the Arlon tune every hour. The relics of Saint Donat are available on request from the presbytery. The Knippchen, the hill on which the church stands, is well worth a stroll for its panoramic views over the borders of the three countries. The church is located in the heart of Hetchegass, the historic district of old Arlon.
