Buried here are a total of 6,807 German servicemen, the youngest of whom were only 17 years old. Initially, the Americans brought together 3,000 German soldiers who had fallen in the Ardennes offensive and others who had died along the border in Germany. Immediately after the war, the Belgian burial service grouped together the bodies of soldiers buried in open fields or isolated in communal cemeteries.
