During the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Battle of the Bulge, a tribute was paid to the hundreds of Amerindians who died in December 1944, enlisted by the United States. For this is a little-known detail of history. Like the Senegalese riflemen who helped France liberate itself in the two world wars, Amerindians were conscripted during the Second World War, often to transmit messages incomprehensible to the enemy. Most of these fighters were from the Oglala Lakota Sioux tribe.
