INDIAN STELE
Stele in homage to the hundreds of Indians who died in December 1944, enlisted by the United States in Bastogne
During the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, a tribute was paid to the hundreds of Amerindians who died in December 1944, enlisted by the United States. This is a little-known detail of history. Like the Senegalese riflemen who helped France to liberate itself from the two world wars, American Indians were enlisted during the Second World War, often to transmit messages that were incomprehensible to the enemy. Most belonged to the Oglala Sioux tribe.
