CHURCH OF SAINT-THIBAULT
Priory hosting the relics of St. Thibaut, an century Champagne saint.
Attention masterpieces! This priory was founded by the Abbey of Saint-Rigaud (Saône-et-Loire) in the 11th century.
Supported by the Lords of Thil, it housed the relics of Saint Thibault, a young saint from Champagne, from the 11th to the 13th century. It became a major pilgrimage site, but suffered the ravages of the Hundred Years' War. It was not until the mid-19th century that it was restored by Viollet-le-Duc. The 13th-century portal is remarkable. The interior is surprisingly full of treasures, including a Gothic apse, a 14th-century polychrome altarpiece, a 13th-century recumbent tomb and a shrine to Saint Thibault in the Saint-Gilles chapel. The priory, now a parish church, receives over 15,000 visitors a year. Take a look, and you'll understand why!
