FORTERESSE DE POILVACHE
A hilltop fortress built in the century, providing a strategic vantage point over the entire Meuse region.
A few kilometers from Namur stands the fortress of Poilvache. Built in the 13th century on a hill, it offered a strategic viewpoint on the whole Meuse region. During two centuries, it was successively occupied by the Luxemburgers, the Namurians and the Burgundians. It is part of one of the stages of the road to Santiago de Compostela. The castle was largely destroyed by the people of Liège and the Hutois in 1430, but after its destruction, nature took over. Today it is located in a nature reserve.
