MIL. CIMETRY. CHAMPION
The cemetery installed Champion aligning the graves of Belgian soldiers and French fighters, with two coats of arms.
The military cemetery of Champion aligns the graves of 491 Belgian soldiers and 32 French combatants, who died during the defence of Namur and the fort of Marchovelette in particular. In its centre, an imposing monument represents a kneeling woman, symbol of the Fatherland. Holding a palm in her hand, she bends over two soldiers: a Belgian wearing a shako (military headdress with a visor) and armed with a rifle, and a Frenchman with a kepi and sword. On the base, two coats of arms represent the French rooster on the right and the Belgian lion on the left.
