THE WALL OF GUNFIRE
The Wall of the Fusillés near the edge of the Meuse, a real hecatomb for the city keeping a very present scar
In August 1914, 674 Dinant residents were executed in several parts of the town by the invading Germans. In particular, near the prison, along the wall of a private property (Tschoffen property). Similarly, near the banks of the Meuse, over a hundred Dinant residents were shot. A real hecatomb for the town, which has kept this scar ever since. Since the end of the war, the wall has been the object of intense pilgrimage. In August 1927, a large bronze plaque by sculptor Franz Huygelen was affixed to the wall.
