ROCHER BAYARD
Rocher Bayard located about one kilometer from downtown, with an impressive rocky spur several meters high
Located about one kilometre from the town centre, Bayard Rock is an impressive 35-metre high rock spur, completely detached from the rest of the cliff. It was created by an explosion to allow the passage of Louis XIV's troops after they had taken Dinant. According to the legend, the breach was created by a hoof blow from the horse Bayard, who was taking the momentum to cross the Meuse and try to escape from Charlemagne. What was only a narrow path was widened for the passage of Louis XIV's troops in the 17th century.
