FOY-NOTRE-DAME
Foy-Notre-Dame, a small village, on the heights of Dinant, with a church in Mosan baroque style, with a remarkable ceiling
On the heights of Dinant, the tiny village of Foy-Notre-Dame is unusual to say the least. It was founded after 1609 following the discovery of a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary in an oak tree that had just been felled. A Marian devotion and some miracles followed. The village church is obviously dedicated to Our Lady. The main feature of the church is its remarkable ceiling in Mosan baroque style. It is composed of 21 rows of 7 wooden caissons. The 22 houses of the village were damaged on December 24th 1944 (Battle of the Bulge).
