HAN CAVE AREA
The Domaine des Grottes de Han, popular in Belgium, with stalagmite and stalactite rooms, with the underground Lesse
A popular family visit in Belgium known for its brand new sound and light show by Luc Petit since 2018, entitled "Origin". A poetic mise en abime of the caves that further embellishes the site in the eyes of visitors. But it all starts with a tramway leaving the village center and taking visitors through the natural surroundings of Rochefort to the entrance to the caves. Guides then take over for a two-kilometre stroll through the various stalagmite and stalactite chambers. Along the way, you'll see many magnificent concretions, including the "Minaret", a particularly tall stalagmite, the "Mysterious" and the "Trophy", an exceptional stalagmite measuring seven metres high and twenty metres in circumference at the base - the most impressive of all! In the "Salle d'Armes", a sound and light show highlights the various concretions, while in the "Salle du Dôme", a spectacle makes it easier to imagine the gigantic dimensions of the "Dôme de Lumière". Last but not least, a page has been turned for good: the boats that used to take visitors to the surface along the course of the underground Lesse river have been replaced by a footbridge over the last few years. Don't forget to bring non-slip sneakers, a warm sweater and pants, as it's cold in the caves in both summer and winter. If you want to see the concretions better during your visit, bring a flashlight.
