PARLEMENT DE WALLONIE
Parliament of Wallonia installed in the former Saint-Gilles hospital, changing its use several times over time
The seat of democracy in Wallonia, the Parliament is housed in the former Saint-Gilles Hospital, dating from the 13th century. It has changed use several times over the years and was also a hospice from 1796 until its dismantling in 1965. Inaugurated as the Walloon Parliament (then "of Wallonia") in 1998, it has among other particularities the fact of being an "English-style" assembly where majority and opposition face each other. This is because the narrowness of the rooms does not allow the installation of a hemicycle. The building has been listed since 1936.
