HALLE AL'CHAIR
The hall al'Chair, a Renaissance style building, housing an archaeological museum and a tourist office, installed in Namur
Renaissance building (16th century), the Halle al' Chair was used by the butchers' guild. Meat was cut up on the first floor, which was located at the level of the Sambre. On the ground floor were the stalls and the upper floor was used for offices. Reconverted in the 17th century, the building became an arsenal, a hospital, a place of worship, a theater before becoming a butcher shop again in the 18th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, the hall was acquired by the city and the Archaeological Society founded its museum there (1855). After an important renovation, the tourist office will soon be installed there.
