BELFRY OF NAMUR
A tower made of Namur stone, topped by a bulbous slate roof, and protecting one of the city's entrance gates
This ashlar tower is topped by a bulbous slate roof. Namur once had an older belfry on its citadel, but after its destruction in the 18th century, the Tour Saint-Jacques took over. Built in 1388, this 20-metre-high tower was part of the third city wall. Originally twice its original height, it protected one of the city's entrance gates. The building is one of around fifty regional belfries (in Belgium and northern France) listed as Unesco World Heritage Sites.
