CONTRERAS
Contrapils, Tonneke, Especial Mars, Valeir (Fair, Donker, Various, Extra)
René Contreras took over the Laths brewery in Gavere in 1898. A beer subsisted to this transition, Tonneke, a special Belgian already made in 1818. The seasonnal beer Mars, launched in 1898, was recently renamed Contreras Especial Mars, to stress the Spanish origins of the family who has always remained owner of the brewery for over hundred years.
Since he took over as a head of the business in 2000, Ann Contreras's husband, Frederik De Vrieze, gave a bit of fresh air to the brewery by launch the range of Valeir especially, with the blonde in 2004 and a brown (Donker) and a triple blonde (Divers) in 2005. An IPA version, the Extra, was added in 2008. Today, the brewery produces 3,000 hectolitres annually and exports in the United States, in Japan, in Denmark and in England in particular.
