SINT-NIKLAASKERK
St. Nicholas Church in the Scaldian Gothic style with an organ and a chapel with a more imposing and sober tower.
The church of Saint-Nicolas was built in the 13th century in blue stone from Tournai, in a Scaldian Gothic style (primitive Gothic or Romanesque-Gothic). It is one of the oldest in the city. It has recovered its character thanks to a great restoration in the 19th century. Its tower is more imposing and more sober than those of the later buildings. In the Middle Ages (15th century), it was frequented by guilds, guilds of craftsmen, merchants and boatmen who had their own chapel attached to the building. The organ is by the Frenchman Cavaillé-Coll.
