VERTILLUM ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE
Listed amongst the historical monument since 1875, the excavations of this Gallo-Roman antique city largely contributed to improve the museum by the Pays châtillonnais-Trésor de Vix. This archaeological site preads on 25 hectaresfrom where you can still see there buried structures including thermal baths, the ramparts and the remains of a temple. On this Gallo-Roman site, they also discovered traces of old necropolis of animals. The free path is equipped with a viewpoint indicator and explanatory panels. Vertillum was a large village of 5,000 inhabitants in Roman times and its public monuments were sumptuously decorated, apparently this village has only fifty inhabitants these days.
