REMAINS OF THE DUCAL CASTLE
The interesting remains of a castle that dates back to the eleventh century, classified as a fortified castle of the plain. Among the many homeowners who lived there include Hugh IV, Duke of Burgundy, Louis XI, and Philip the Bold and Margaret of Flanders who loved staying there. The four towers of the castle still exist, as well as the gap with a flat bottom which made the tower, clearly visible as it was cleaned in 2009. The building is now owned by Jeanne Corot, who rents it to the cultural center of Villaines, association responsible for the restoration and maintenance since the eighties.
