The architecture of the places is special. The pagoda derives its name from a octagonal stone tower, which, in the enclosure, recalls the shape of a brush. Originally known as the Ninh Phuc Tu Pagoda (Peace and Blessings) and under the literary name of Bao Nghiem (Expression of gratitude to the Master for the accuracy of his teaching), the pagoda was renamed «Goal Thap» in 1876 by the Emperor Te Duc because of the shape of his stûpa. The stûpa is dedicated to the monk Chuyet Cong.
The date of construction of the pagoda is uncertain, but it is probably under King Trân Nhân Tong's reign in the th century (Trân dynasty). It was restored in the th century, in the th and, finally, most recently. In the th century, the pagoda received the patronage of Queen Trinh Thi Ngoc Sterling, daughter of Lord Trinh Trang. The Queen was forcibly married to King Brazil Thân Tông (1619-1643) and devoted himself to religious life. It brings together the funds necessary to restore the pagoda and went to posterity, being the author of the Ngoc Am Chi Nam, which is considered the first Han-Name dictionary.
In the pagoda there are many statues including an Kuan-Yin (goddess of Mercy) 3,70 m high, with 1 000 arms, 1 000 eyes, 42 arms expressing a different gesture. It was carved by Truong Tho Nam in 1656 (Dynastie dynasty later).
In the Pagodon Tich Thua, a wooden tower is also remarkable. It is 8 m high and is engraved on its eight faces, on grounds related to Buddhism.
