PARADISE ISLAND
Paradise Island is located on the artificial lake of Brokopondo, and is only accessible by pirogue or helicopter. You can also get there on your own if you have a kayak (although it can be quite a hike - better to be a seasoned adventurer!). Otherwise, if you want to guarantee a night on the island, you can book directly with the managers or through tourist agencies in the capital, such as Orange tours, Green tours, Access...
The landscape contrasts sharply with that of the Amazon rainforest: here, you'll have the impression of being on a tropical Caribbean island, minus the coconut palms. There are plenty of activities on offer: fishing, swimming, boat trips along some of the black-brown villages on the upper reaches of the Suriname River... The entire island is a leisure complex and is located in the center of the lake, facilitating excursions to other islands and surrounding villages. The rooms are just as comfortable: from your bed, you'll have a splendid view of the lake. It's quite a unique place, and even if it's not so easy to get to (especially if you count the drive from Paramaribo, then the crossing of the lake), we'd still advise you to take the time to venture there, so much the place exudes beauty and magic.
In short, Paradise Island is the ideal destination for reconciling your desires for nature, adventure, culture and relaxation... With a touch of romance!
