TEMBÉ ART STUDIO - HEAP
Marcel Pinas, born in the Marowijne district, has always wanted to return to his birthplace and organize art workshops for young people in the village. He began giving art classes twice a week in a school, and was joined by other artists who joined his movement. This crazy project came to fruition in 2009, with the creation of the Kibii Foundation. Marcel's efforts did not go unnoticed: he found the support of the American company Suralco, which gave him the left wing of the former Moengo hospital. The Tembé Art Studio was then created and inaugurated in February 2010. The center is open every day for adults and young people from the village to take part in art and music workshops: dance, music, painting, drawing, sculpture, pottery and much more. Each year, Moengo organizes a festival where the creations made during the year are exhibited, and the pieces played in concerts, all to raise awareness of black-brown culture in the rest of the country, and to help the village of Moengo, too long forgotten, evolve. Curious visitors are most welcome. Black-Brown culture and knowledge are at the heart of all Marcel Pinas's activities. But his message is universal in scope, and he encourages viewers to question their own culture, and their role in preserving the precious elements of their traditions. A plunge into history with an artistic touch!
