The construction of this religious pilgrimage center is a recent idea of the Sikkimese government, to promote tourism. A sort of religious theme park, a somewhat fake place where thousands of Indians crowd. A gigantic 33 meters high statue of Shiva is proudly enthroned here, and around it, replicas of the four sacred Hindu pilgrimage sites (the char dam) as well as temples and statues are scattered.
