NEELTJE JANS
Neelte Jan is one of the most emblematic elements of the Netherlands' constant struggle against water
Neelte Jan is probably one of the most emblematic elements of the Netherlands' constant struggle against water. It is an artificial island that hosts an information center about the incredible work of the Delta Plan, the famous plans to save the country from rising waters. This island gained its worldwide notoriety by hosting, in a downpour, the arrival of the second stage of the Tour de France in 2015 from Utrecht. Neelte consists of 65 concrete pylons and a 66th was added in case another one failed.
