CHÂTEAU D'ARTHEL
On the heights of the charming little village of Arthel, in the vicinity of Prémery, the castle has belonged to the same family since the 17th century. Built on a former fortified castle, it was completely rebuilt in the 18th century. An ancient residence of the bishops of Nevers, a moat surrounds the castle to the south. Beyond its very orderly and elegant main courtyard, the visitor will appreciate the succession of terraces, one of which is equipped with a labyrinth of trimmed boxwood. One will notice four alleys of lime trees dating from 1700-1710 as well as a vegetable garden and a very beautiful lawn arranged in the French style.
