CLARK ART INSTITUTE
Place to see the private collection of Sterling and Francine Clark in Williamstown.
This is the private collection of Sterling and Francine Clark, a wealthy industrial couple who lived in Europe and amassed works of art in the first half of the 20th century, hence the importance of the representation of paintings by Renoir, Degas, Flemish and Italian Renaissance painters. Since 1955, the collection has grown to include more than 9,000 works: painting, sculpture, photography, drawings and decorative arts. The new glass, concrete and wood wing, inaugurated in 2015, is the work of Japanese architect Tadao Ando.
