COG RAILWAY
Train that climbs the mountain to see the valleys of New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine
It departs from Bretton Woods, 6 miles east of Route 302, not far from the famous Mount Washington Hotel. Since 150, this train has been climbing the mountain on what is the steepest railroad in the United States. The climb is absolutely breathtaking (frightening for those prone to vertigo!). Allow 3 hours for the journey in this amazing steam locomotive to the summit and back. You can see the valleys of New Hampshire, then Vermont and Maine, all the way to the Canadian border. On a clear day, you can see the Atlantic Ocean.
