This vast Greek Renaissance house was built in 1811 and was purchased in 1830 by Dr. Elie Evans Jones, a prominent doctor in the city. Dr. Jones was also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Female College of Madison and an important shareholder in the Georgia Railroad.
The house, also known as Jones-Turnell-Manley House, was actually built 200 metres from the current location. It was moved back in 1909 when the owner of the time, Stephen Turnell, sold part of the house's surface for the construction of a new Methodist church. The entire house was raised, placed on wooden rolls, and then pulled by horses and mules at its current location.
Heritage Hall was a private residence until 1977. His last owner was Mrs. Sue Reid Walton Manley, known as "First Lady of Madison" for the financial support she brought to the city's churches and institutions. Her granddaughter donated Heritage Hall to the Morgan County Historical Society, Inc., in 1977.
The house has been opened since that date.
