AMERICAN MUSEUM OF SCIENCE & ENERGY
Museum in Oak Ridge, featuring period photos and information on the development of the first atomic bomb.
This museum gives some insight into the atom in general, but provides little detailed information on the facilities that were dedicated to the development of the first atomic bomb. The few documents and period photos on display give only a glimpse of what the site was like, and are very vague about how it evolved. This is understandable, given the particular importance that Oak Ridge has had and continues to have.
It is now possible to take a guided bus tour of the complex and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. It's also an opportunity to learn more about the Manhattan Project, the Cold War and other Y-12 security missions. Tours take place every morning from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.
